Home»San Juan Pueblo, New Mexico, USA; Deer Dance (circa late 1970s)
Circa 1980 we were fortunate enough to be in Northern New Mexico, San Juan Pueblo on the weekend of the Deer Dance. I remember early October? I was allowed to take photos of the event. I am dredging deep into memory here so I will relate what little I can as best as I can. If others can relate details, please email me. I think the photo are in cronological order. A few comments are posted where appropriate. I make no pretense of understanding the fine points of this dance, and used it in my classes for various purposes. For urban kids, this was like seeing Clingons, just a totally foreign revelation.
